Dunollie Castle is situated just on the northern outskirts of Oban on the west coast of Scotland.
It was the seat of the MacDougalls, the Lords of Lorne, who once owned a third of Scotland.
You have to climb a small, but steep hill to reach these ruins (no entrance fee), but it's
worth it for the view overlooking the northern entrance of Oban harbour.
