Hey i realy need help with this castle project. i need 2 kno Why were many castles built near bodies of water, on the bends of rivers, or on cliffs? The keep of a castle was once called a donjon in French. What modern word associated with castles comes from the word donjon. In time, small villages and towns grew up around the castles. Why did people like to live near castles? What conditions made castles cold, dark and damp? What advantages does a small modern house have over a medieval castle?
