Just thought that I would tell you about my recent trip to Schloss Colditz (Colditz Castle) which is located in Saxony, Germany.
The castle which is infamous as the high security prison for allied officers during the second world war, is being renovated at the moment, and I managed to visit as the renovations are almost complete. It only cost a few euros to enter, or you can have a guide for a little more. There is a museum, with various artifacts from the wartime. An actual uniform is displayed, which the allies managed to make from bed clothes using a sewing machine (made from wood), and is acceptable as the real thing - especially if seen only at night. Also, a counterfeit German passport, and other ingenious copies are shown.
Very well worth a visit next time you are near Dresden or Leipzig in Germany. Then as you are leaving, you can think to yourself "I've escaped from Colditz" |
