Mr. Dijmarescu you need to follow up on History before you make coments as such. What do you think the name DEVA is? Hungarian or Romanian?

I'm sometimes amazed how stupid some people are when they afford to comment on things they have no idea of.
Deva is a city in Romania. Study a map, it's as easy as that!!!!!!!!!!

Hunedoara County is in Transylvania which is a part of Romania which, at one time, was broken into two sections: Hungarian and German. Thus, you're both right, more or less. Very Happy

Horia is perfectly right! Deva is actually a Romanian town, and I have serious doubts there is another one in Hungary. The point is that, historically, Transylvania (the north-western part of current Romania), where Deva is located, used to be under the military occupation of the Austro-Hungarian Empire... and then temporarily annexed to Hungary. Nevertheless, the region has been purely Romanian all along and the "heritage" of Magyar ethnicity is a mere minority. I have no idea what precisely the name "Deva" was given after, and when exactly the town got its name, but I'm absolutely certain that it IS in Romania. Actually, I've been there myself!!!

I was born in Deva, Romania. There is no doubt about the historical fact that Deva was for a short period of time under Hungarian occupation. The origins of this locatins come from ancient times. The name of Deva was used for this location even before the Roman conquest in 106 A. .D. (Castrum Deva). There are a lot of theories about this name and its origins, but they certainly do not involve Hungarian origins. Beacuse the "huns", the ancestors of Hungarian people, established on the Panonia Field long after the Romans came here.

There are a lot of things to be said on this subject. But I think that is very clear that Deva is not a Hungarian name.
