Wow, this is kind of funny. I've been researching castle building for a project of my own, really...
But, uh, a good search really is to go to a place like google and type, "medieval castle build" That search also picked up this site, though.
Anyway, castles can be built in many ways.
If you want your castle to have an inside, you need to include The Great Hall, The Kitchens, Living Spaces, Water and Toiletry, and the Chapel. In general, the rooms were sparsely furnished. Ground floors were just that: ground. Any floors above that were timber.
If you are just making the outside, many layouts may be designed. Castles were made out of either wood or stone, the latter being safer and more common. Towers are a usual addition, and windows tended to be small and iron-barred, for protection.
A model castle can be made out of many things.. from junk around the house to homemade components to store bought wood and stone... My best advice is to be creative, but check authenticity. |

So you need to know how to build a castle, huh? First I would start doing a little research on Castles. Which, since this is for a class, I bet you've already done. So, moving on first of course I bet you'll have to build this at home and carry it into the class right? So you're going to need something sturdy as a foundation I'd say about 19x19 inches (just to be safe) So head up to your local hardware store and buy some wood, it might cost you $15 most places will even cut it to the size that you need. (I've done this before) Then you'll need stuff to build it out of something sturdy but that you can paint on and something not too heavy so you can carry it. Like Cardboard, So since you probably aren't about to go to a moving store to buy some cardboard boxes, head up to like the local electronics store Circuit City, Best Buy, Ultimate Electronics, etc. and ask for the guy in the warehouse, not the manager, not one of the salesman, but the guy working back in the warehouse once you'vefound him tell him that you need three or four boxes from like small TV's 13 or 14 inches he should have some, you may have to bribe him but 5 should do it. Inside of these boxes maybe some styrofoam don't throw that away it is good for support.
So, you've got wood(haha) you've got boxes and if you live in a house like mine you're little brother has a ton of half eaten Elmer's bottles so you' got some glue, You'll need scissors, mabye some tape (duct tape is the best It's already gray) So you're ready to build your castle. Start with one of the boxes and just turn it upside down and glue it to the wood this will make a nice foundation and something strong to hold everything else and also what you could do later is fold in the bottom (now the top) to see into the castle, mabye make a castle courtyard? So you've got the base of your castle now you can add off towers by kind of rolling up the cardboardand putting a bigger roll on top then a cone on top of that. so from then on just be creative get some paint, spray paint is of course the quickest but keep in mind that it does eat away at styrofoam so be careful of that and if you cant find gray paint mix black and white. Gluck! |
