look up king ludwig II and all the castles he built along the rhine. Neuchwanstein is the model for Disney. he spent over(what we know) a billion dollars.

Hello ashtin49,

when i searched some information about the history of Fischenich I found your topic in that forum.
I'm living in Fischenich and as far as I know there is no castle here.

What we have is an old manor house, the "Weilerhof" , which is build "castle-like" (new gotic architecture, built in 1869). You can take a look on it under http://www. .huerth. .de/sehensw/hsfisch. .html.

The other thing are the ruins of a castle from the 12th/13th century.
It's one of the oldest castles of the "Vorgebirge" mountains between Cologne and Bonn .
It's not really a big impression, the ruins are existing as a round wall (Hight:6-10 mtr) and the basement.
I heard some rumours about an underground corridor, leading some kilometers to the south, but I can't confirm them -there is no entry for public visitors.
It's only possible to look on the ruins from outside.
The most important thing is the used material: it's built with stones from the old romanic wasserpipes to Cologne.
This material (blocks of cast concrete, there also known as "opus caementium") was common used in the high middle-age for castle building etc. in this region.
Unfortunately there is no photo of it in the web, but if you need some I could make some digital photos and send i to you.

With greetings from Huerth-Fischenich
Mirko

Hi I trie right now to tell you something about Fischenich...

The population is right now about 5000 persons and there was an caste.
The old walls from it are still standing. At about 1900 there was build a "Kloster" (sorry I do not know the translation) something from church.. Smile
over it. I searched by my self also for some documents. There are build right now a lot of building around the old castle.

I hope I could help you with this information.

Feel free to contact me over markus. .wolter@web. .de

Good wishes
