this castle

Castle Mautendorf was sponsored by Pope Innocent IV who decreed
in 1253 that Mautendorf, a market town, should have a castle. Ownership of the
castle went to the Turks in 1462 but in 1490 reverted to Salzburg. In the
fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Mautendorf was enlarged with the addition of
a small tower and the entire building was restored and rebuilt in the nineteenth
century.

In 1999 went to Mauterndorf, or
actually Steindorf, for the first time. That same year we visited the
castle. The guide did indeed tell us that Goering used to spend quite
some time at the castle. By some reason, so it seems, he inherited the
castle. But then, after WW2 it became national property I guess |

I read that Hermann Goering spent a part of his childhood
at Mauterndorf. I would like somebody to confirm or deny this statement. |
