The Chatelaine's Scottish Castles
	The Chatelaine's site covers over 1200 castles, towers and fortified buildings within Scotland, with featured favorites, photos, guided tours, electronic postcards, clan connections and travel info. The site also lists Scottish castles available for accommodation or weddings.

British Castles, Stately Homes and Houses

"British Castles, Stately Homes and Houses" is a website created by Risto Hurmalainen, Helsinki, Finland. Risto did some studying in early 1960's in London (not castles but banking!), got acquainted with the British way of living and the British history, and has been a devoted anglophile ever since. He visits Britain at least once a year, and has on every trip more or less systematically seen some of those castles and stately homes which are so typical to the British Isles.

In December 1996 Risto launched his "British Castles" website, which has by the end of the year 1999 visited over 130,000 times. The site has the 'clickable' map of Britain with the names of all the castles Risto has personally visited. Below the map there is the list giving a short description of each castle (totalling 184 in Dec 1999) and numerous links to other websites with more information about it. Risto has also self-taken photographs of most of the castles on his list, and these, some of them rather large, pictures have been annexed to his site.

Risto's favorites are the inhabited palaces and castles like Alnwick, Arundel, Bamburgh, Blair, Blenheim, Castle Howard, Cawdor, Chatsworth, Glamis, Harewood, Holkham, Inveraray, Longleat, Manderston and Scone, but the smaller castles as well as the ruined ones have all their own charms.

The number of the castles on Risto's list will hopefully grow again in summer 2000, when he will for a couple of weeks be cruising again in the British countryside!
