Review
this castle

Chillon Castle was built on a rocky inlet near the eastern shore of Lake
Geneva. (Lac Lemon), Switzarland, not far from Montreux. There was a castle here
as early as the ninth century, built to protect one of the main roads to the
Great St. Bernard pass to Italy, but the present castle was for the most part
built by the counts of Savoy in the late twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
During the sixteenth century, the castle was used as a state prison and was the
setting of the English poet Byron's "The Prisoner of Chillon"

Chillon Castle is a must see for anyone
who loves Medieval history. It is like stepping back in time into the
life of a working castle. It is filled with furniture of the time and
has beautiful window seats where women used to sit and embroider. The
tour was wonderful and informative but there is much more to see on your
own. I hope I get to go back there one day! |

In march of 2001, my
father, older sister and I had the opportunity to go to the chateau de
Chillon. There are no tour guides, but there are numbers posted
throughout the castle so that if you simply follow the numbers, you will
see the entire castle and not get lost. It was very interesting to
bew in the dungeons and be able to look out through the grating and see
the lake (which by the way, is gorgeous). Getting to the highest
tower was quite the experience. Luckily there were very few
people visiting the day we went, so it wasn't crowded. But there
were so many flights of stairs, oh my goodness. I swear there were
about eight levels that we went through before we got to the top.
It was worth it though, the view from up there is spectacular, and just
to be able to point to the top window on that castle in a picture or a
post card and say "I was there" gives me an great feeling.
The only time I've ever been out of this country was when I went to France
and Switzerland and, and it was so worth it to visit Chillon. |

visited this castle in July, 2000
along with the Washington State Ambassadors of Music. This tour
took us (250 people) from London to Paris, Switzerland, Austria, Venice,
Liechtenstein, and to Germany. All of these places were great but
Switzerland was by far the best! If you plan on visiting this
castle and country, I would like to endorse the village of Champery (30
min. drive away) for great sight-seeing and shopping. Scott Helms

I visited this castle
about 3 years ago and was overwhelmed with its beauty, both in its
location and its building. The dungeon gave be goose bumps as it
was dank and dreary. I could almost here the prisoners crying for
mercy. The lapping of the waves against the walls was especially
eerie. The courtyard was beautiful, in contrast, with fragrant
flowers and warm sunshine. This castle is a definite one to visit.
Not far, is the town of Guyere, where the cheese is made. It is
the picture of a town out of the story, "Heidi." Please
do not miss it or the delicious cheese fondue. |

This was an awesome castle. It showed
how medieval times really where. It was amazing how hard their life was.
The castle had a lot of features to tell you that. I would highly recommend
going there. I went in 1998 and it was fantastic. |

Chillon is one of the greatest castles
in Europe, as well as one of the most famous. The dungeons are really
dark, and you can still see where Lord Byron scratched his name in one
of the pillars. I hope everyone can get a chance to visit Chillon
Castle. |

Chateau de Chillon is a very
pretty castle. The tour I took was very informative and the
setting of the Castle on the lake is incredibly gorgeous. I found
the castle to be rather perfect in its setting, completely surrounded by
water except for on one side which was protected by a moat. Other than
that you have to see it for yourself to understand the beauty of the
castle. |

I have visited this wonderful castle in
1973 and in 1997. The first visit was particularly memorable,
since I was working as a farm hand in Lausanne and took the boat trip to
Montreaux. The best way to come upon this sight is by boat. All I can say is that the Dukes of Savoy must have had a great real
estate agent! To all: if you have a chance to visit this area, Chillon is well worth a
side trip. |

I personally visited this
Memorable Castle! It is "Rich" with history, it is as if
the King and Queen are still there. When you visit it, please try
and read Lord Byrons account at the castle. Prisioner of Chillon
is extra special and will only make your visit absolutely unforgettable! |

This was a very beautiful Castle. The
Dungeon was something to see. Terible place for the prisoners that was
once there! And Byron's carved name in one of the posts was plain to
see. The rooms above were exciting to see - all the armour, swords, cups,
furniture from the early times. Even indoor toilets! The chapel was very
pretty. There were even painted shields of people that had visited in
the very early times. A must to see! |

Chillon is a great example of an older castle.
The setting on Lac LeMan (Lake Geneva), with the mountains across the
lake, is breathtaking. Montreux is a quaint town full of nice
shops and friendly people. I have been there twice an will
definitely go back! |

This castle is so amazing!! It's not the biggest one
around, but it's small and cozy. It has a gorgeous view from any window
you look out of. You get a great view of the mountains that surround it.
I definitely recommend this castle if you're traveling through
