Hello, I am looking for information about the castle ruins just west of Gainfarm, Austria. The last information I have that it was the Interior Ministry of Austria. Can some please help me with any information you can find. I see that there is a castle ruin icon on the Austria map but it does not give any information.
The name of the castle ruins was Merkenstein.
Thank you for any help.

------------------------------------------------------- Halloo Pete!
There are two buildings in Austria called Merkenstein.
They are a ruin Merkenstein and a castle (more like a
big house) Merkenstein. They are actually situated in one place- Austria, Lower Austria(Niederösterreich),
just near the town Bad Vöslau. On the Internet our can
find a picture of the ruin at http://www. .bad-voeslau. .at/. In case you do not understand German, I
explain the way: klick on ,TOURISMUS, than to ,WISSENSWERTES, find a underlined word in the text
,SEHENSWÜRDIGKEITEN,.
In case you run on a picture of the castle (not the ruin) Merkenstein, please send me an e-mail with
the Internet address.

merkenstein was a fluchtburg ( a castle used as a safe haus ) during the invation of the tuerks in 1629 and 1683 the castle was not taken by the tuerks in the first attack but as the left the attak a woman showed her behind over the castle wall the tuerks became angry again and this time stormed the castle and killed a number of persons,
this is quoted from a passage of the burgen buch of austrian castles.
some of my first recorden ancestors were killed by the tuerks at that time.
I have that record fromthe churchbooks of gainfarn.
my Christoph schuster and his wife maria were my 10 grandparents
