| I would find a floor plan on the internet and then draw it out on some type of board. Then get modeling clay and work around the floor plan and remember to incorporate important structures and architecture into the clay. Then get small rocks and mold them into the outside walls(and inside if you want) to give it a realistic look. |

Short of fancy tools and materials? Why don't you try the CARDBOARD CASTLE. I used this method myself; and as it turned out, I managed to pull off a 105% on my grade eleven major History Project--the results were incredible. I made several modifications and a couple of my own innovations, but I used the same principles outlined here:
http://www. .terragenesis. .co. .uk/buildings/castle3FP. .html
I highly suggest you give this one a go if time and materials are NOT luxuries you possess.
One last thing... try using gardening shears to cut popsicle sticks rather than using balsa wood. Consider adding a functioning well using the popsicle sticks and a thread spool as a crank. Catapults out of popsicle sticks work well too--these may be placed on the front two towers. I also constructed a functioning drawbridge using some thin chain I bought from the hardware store, popsicle sticks, a hinge and two pen barrels I inserted through the gatehouse to guide the chains along smoothly as the bridge raises and lowers (this also prevents the chains from acting as saws, cutting into the cardboard).
Any one of these things would make nice additions and will have the other punks in your class jealous of the castle that kicked their projects in their asses. Good luck and have fun! |

I highly suggest you give this one a go if time and materials are NOT luxuries you possess.
A FEW HELPFUL NOTES... try using gardening shears to cut popsicle sticks rather than using balsa wood. Also, go to the dollar store and get one or two of those one-dollar beauques of fake flowers; snip the flower heads off and insert them into the base inside and around your castle--snip little bits off the flower heads to make flowers you can position aroundthe trees. There are many things you can get from the dollar store that can be well-implemented--just look around. For the base, purchase a sheet of foam insulation/siding from the hardware store, draw on the floor plan of your castle and then cut out a natural line around it using a utility knife (long sharp blade)--make several passes with the knife; one deep cut will greatly increase the liklihood of the blade snapping off and impaling you in the retina.
Money-Saving Tip: DO NOT go to those rip-off hobby shops (except for the flock/turf which is difficult to find anywhere else). Search the dollar stores as much as you can--You will be surprised at the sheer number of useful things in these places that will catch your eye.
Note on Flock/Turf: Lay down a coat of green paint onto the foam base to eliminate the original pink or blue colour of the foam from showing through the flock. You may use a sift to make application of the flock a lot more painless.
Any one of these things would make nice additions and will have the other punks in your class jealous of the castle that kicked their projects in their asses.
Good luck and remember, be creative and have fun! It is awesome seeing your medieval creation come together -- believe me. |

We're building model castles in class. It must be a model of a real castle not one that we just made up. If anybody knows any good websites or has any info or ideas that would help either post a reply or call at 972-839-0050. |
